iTouch Users PLEASE NOTE:  While the iPhone version of A.P.S. MusicMaster “works” on the iTouch, it was not developed for the iTouch… because of the lack of a built-in microphone, the audio recorder section will not work and there are issues with the pitch-pipe/chromatic tuner module because of this as well…

Generating a Crash Report and sending it to Apple

Developers always want to know if something odd is happening with their programs, we are no exception.

Sending Crash Reports Automatically:

Unfortunately for developers, many people have not opted to send reports to Apple automatically that are related to their product.   We strongly encourage you to consider enabling this feature.  All reports sent to Apple this way are completely Anonymous.  In order to setup your device to automatically send any crash reports generated implement this following steps:

  1. Connect your device to the computer that you sync with
  2. Right click your device in the left column
  3. Select “Reset Warnings” from the pop-up dialog box
  4. Re-sync your device/Apply
  5. At some point in the sync the following dialog box will appear: “You can help Apple improve it products and user support by having your iPad/iPhone automatically send Apple information from time to time about how it’s working and how you use it”
  6. Click the “OK” button in the dialog box – you have now enabled the ability to automatically send crash reports for the device and all programs to Apple (including ours)
  7. Complete the Re-sync process

Acquiring Crash Reports Manually:

When an application crashes on the iPhone or iPod touch, a “crash report” is stored on the device. Crash reports describe the conditions under which the application terminated, in most cases including a complete stack trace for each executing thread, and are typically very useful for debugging issues in the application.

When the user synchronizes their device using iTunes, crash reports are copied to a directory on the user’s computer. If the application was distributed via the App Store and the user has chosen to submit crash logs to Apple, the crash log will be uploaded and the developer can download it via iTunes Connect. For applications that have been distributed using Ad Hoc or Enterprise methods, getting crash reports requires user cooperation. Specifically, the user will need to retrieve the crash report from the directory where it was copied by iTunes. Depending on the platform, the directory is:

<USERNAME> is the user’s login name for the computer. <DEVICE_NAME> is the name of the iPod touch or iPhone, for example, “John’s iPhone”.

You are only interested in .crash files. The crash report’s file name begins with the application name and contains date/time information. In addition, <DEVICE_NAME> will appear at the end of the file name, before the extension.
